Team Milk, Vox Media, and GALE continue their mission to increase the accessibility and inclusivity of running among all women with the premiere of “Running Sucks” – a short-form docuseries that dives into the inner thoughts, motivations, and experiences of women-identifying runners. Consisting of three comedic episodes, each under 10 minutes, the inspiring docuseries poses and answers the central question: "Why run?"
Audiences tuning in will follow influencer Abi Ayres on her quest to understand the allure of everything that goes into running a marathon, watching her navigate the highs and lows of training. The docuseries furthers Milk’s efforts to amplify women's stories and experiences in distance running while promoting gender equity in all sports.
All three episodes are now live and can be viewed on The Cut.
“Running Sucks” utilizes human-first documentary storytelling to chronicle the grueling 26.2-mile journey, allowing viewers to truly grasp the powerful role that training plays in shaping, shifting, and challenging a runner's mind through physical movement. It reflects GALE’s approach to creating high-quality entertainment over ads.
“Running sucks. But it can be incredibly rewarding. In our mission to inspire and support more female athletes, 'Running Sucks' highlights how everyday people can find joy in running through the lens of Abi’s fish-out-of-water experience,” GALE Chief Innovation Officer Ben James said. “This is another important step toward Team Milk's Every Woman's Marathon happening this November.”
The launch of “Running Sucks” marks a continuation of the partnership between MilkPEP, GALE, and Vox that kicked off on International Women's Day at SXSW. Milk’s commitment to lifting women in sports also includes the launch of the first and only US marathon for and by women, Every Woman’s Marathon.
